Who we are

The international statement and campaign “We Belong to the Land” have been initiated by the International Planning Committee for Food Sovereignty’s Working Group on Land, Forests, Water and Territories. Our objective is to put the equitable distribution of land and natural resources at the center of public policies.

The International Planning Committee for Food Sovereignty (IPC) is an autonomous and self-organized global platform of smallholder food producers’ and Indigenous Peoples’ organizations to coordinate their struggle for food sovereignty.

Within the IPC, the IPC Working Group on Land, Forests, Water and Territory is a space of articulation and convergence of social movements and Indigenous Peoples’ organizations dedicated to defending their territories and promote the right to land. As part of its work, the Working Group has coordinated the participation of social movements and Indigenous Peoples in the process of elaboration and implementation of the Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests (Tenure Guidelines), among other actions.

What are the principles of the IPC WG+ on Land, Forests, Water and Territory?

➜ The autonomy and self-organization of social movements and indigenous peoples’ organizations as organizations representing rights holders;

➜ The formulation and articulation of our political positions with our own voice, and without intermediaries;

➜ The representation of different sectors of food producers;

➜ The respect and promotion of women’s rights;

➜ The representation of the different regions of the world;

➜ The representation of young people.
